Thanks to the extraordinary support of the Hebert Foundation, nearly 40 medically underserved Southeast Texas women received free preventative health screenings, clinical breast exams and mammograms from the Gift of Life.
Founded in 1985, the Hebert Foundation strives to further the inspiring legacy of Wilton and Effie Mae Hebert and their commitment to serving the less fortunate. As a lasting testament to the family’s benevolence, the Hebert Foundation continues to bless the lives of those in need by making available grants to local charities.
For more than 16 years, the Hebert Foundation has impacted the lives of medically underserved women and men through its continual support of the Gift of Life’s free breast and prostate cancer screening programs.
Breast cancer can be a scary thing. I feel so fortunate that I was able to have this free screening today because I know that I’m doing what I can to save my health. This is a great organization!

Since 2000, the foundation has annually sponsored two Gift of Life van sites, providing 29 van sites and 1,045 free clinical breast exams and mammograms, which have helped extend the lives of women who were diagnosed with breast cancer at Hebert Foundation-sponsored sites and navigated through treatment. Additionally, thousands of men have received free prostate cancer screenings at Gift of Life events sponsored by the Hebert Foundation and other generous contributors.
In recognition of the foundation’s longstanding support, the Gift of Life presented its 2015 Julie Rogers “Spirit of Love” Award to Hebert Foundation representatives to honor its community leadership and dedication to provide healthcare for individuals in need.
The Gift of Life is also fortunate to have the support of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, a program that strives to increase awareness of the lifesaving benefits of early detection of breast cancer. For six years, the Gift of Life has benefited from funding through the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade’s Breast Health Outreach Program (BHOP), which funds 56 community outreach and breast cancer screening programs nationwide in an effort to link medically underserved women to breast health education and screening services. Low-income, under-insured, and other marginalized populations often need targeted, customized approaches to help them obtain regular mammograms and clinical breast exams. Through the Avon BHOP, the Gift of Life is empowered to offer these lifesaving services throughout seven Southeast Texas counties.
With the support of the Hebert Foundation, Avon BHOP and other generous donors, the Gift of Life has helped extend the lives of more than 275 Southeast Texans who have been diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer and treated through its efforts.
The Gift of Life is accepting new client applications. FREE mammograms and clinical breast exams are provided to women with limited income and who do not have private insurance, Medicaid or Medicare, or whose insurance has a high deductible.
