Preventing tobacco usage before it starts and encouraging current smoking
adolescents and adults to quit have become important goals for the “Gift of
Life,” leading the program to incorporate smoking cessation and prevention into
its mission. The organization’s tobacco activities began with ASPIRE, the M. D.
Anderson Cancer Center-created high school curriculum, and developed into a
community-wide campaign titled “Don’t Smoke Your Life Away.” The “Gift of Life”
also participates in the Beaumont Tobacco Coalition, in addition to the
Jefferson County Planning Team on Identifying and Eliminating Tobacco-Related
Health Disparities.
