Four feet tall, dressed in snazzy attire, and conveying breast cancer
awareness, "Pink Ladies," the "Gift of Life" Program's newest group of
supporters, are preparing for their
Breast Cancer Awareness Month debut. In 2005, more than 35 breast cancer survivors, along with friends and family
members, decorated "Pink Ladies," which received so much attention that the project
continued in 2006.
These pale pink, female, wooden cutouts are a featured attraction of Breast
Cancer Awareness Month activities. Survivors, as well as their friends and
relatives, decorate a figure in honor of their own survivorship, or in honor of
another survivor, or in memory of a loved one who had breast cancer.
Decorators, who adorn the cutouts in any way they choose, work together in
teams or as an individual.
All decorated "Pink Ladies" were displayed at the Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Kickoff at Parkdale Mall where a panel of judges award prizes to the most creative designers.
After the Kickoff, the "Pink Ladies" were displayed throughout the community to
increase awareness during the month of October.

Each year, breast cancer survivors join their friends and family members at a
"Pink Ladies" Party to kickoff the project. In 2005, more than 50 "Gift of
Life" friends gathered in downtown Beaumont for some great food, fun, and even
better company. Rio Rita's Mexican Food & Cantina served as the party venue
and generously provided everyone's delicious meal.
The event allows guests to honor each other's extraordinary journey through
survivorship, presenting them with an opportunity to strengthen friendships and
get started on their unique design.
