I didn’t have insurance, and I don’t know what I would have done without this program.

During a self breast exam, 39-year-old Orange resident Meridith Hogg’s worst fear was realized: She discovered a lump in her breast but did not have health insurance and knew she could not afford medical care.

Meridith's physician referred her  to the “Gift of Life” Program. Follow-up testing at Baptist Orange Hospital, generously sponsored by The Modern Group, LTD / The Crenshaw Family, confirmed she had Stage 4 breast cancer, which had metastasized to her lymph nodes with small spots on her bones and lungs.

Despite her fears, Meridith’s faith and the tremendous support of her church family and two children have given her strength to fight the disease. With chemotherapy, her cancer has been significantly reduced and her body is responding well to treatment. Meridith is deeply grateful to the “Gift of Life" for providing her with access to excellent medical care.

End of Year Campaign

The “Gift of Life” provides free mammograms and prostate cancer screenings for medically underserved women and men and offers extensive educational outreach throughout seven Southeast Texas counties.

In 2011, the “Gift of Life” diagnosed 13 women with breast cancer and 2 men with prostate cancer, all of whom have been navigated into treatment.

This Holiday Season, we extend our sincere gratitude to our supporters who have helped the “Gift of Life” save lives for 17 years. Ring in the New Year with a call to the “Gift of Life” and find out how you can make a difference!
