Many years ago, Charline
and Sidney “Chief” Dauphin, founders of Texas Home Health, had the pleasure of
meeting Julie and Ben Rogers. Immediately, a bond of mutual respect and
admiration developed between them.
Sadly, Mr. Dauphin passed away in 2000. In an act of overwhelming generosity,
his wife and daughter, Robin, made a significant donation to the “Gift of Life”
as a tribute to Julie and Ben Rogers and in loving memory of their beloved
husband and father. Known to his friends as “Chief,” Sidney Dauphin was
successful in many different areas; in an earlier career, he motivated young
men as a high school football coach. Most of all, he was a true leader. After
his death, his family’s desire was to contribute to an endeavor that would be
meaningful for “Chief” and help continue the great legacy of their friends, the
Rogerses.
In recognition of this beautiful act of kindness and as a remembrance to a
wonderful man, the “Gift of Life” named its breast and prostate cancer
educational outreach initiative in honor of Sidney “Chief” Dauphin. Charline
and Robin’s annual gift has also enabled the “Gift of Life” to expand its
efforts throughout Southeast Texas, including Hamshire Fannett, Lumberton,
Silsbee, Sour Lake, and Evadale, and develop into new areas, including
testicular education and smoking cessation and prevention.
Mr. Dauphin’s legacy and Charline’s commitment to the fight against cancer have
also lead to substantial contributions toward research at The University of
Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center; for the development of ASPIRE, an M. D.
Anderson Cancer Center-developed smoking cessation and prevention curriculum
for high school students; and to the recent opening of the Dauphin Cancer
Screening & Prevention Center at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in
Beaumont.
