The "Pink Ladies" are whipping up a feast. Those fabulous fashionistas have
inspired "Shakin', Bakin', and Celebratin'," a cookbook that served as the
2006 Breast Cancer Survivors' Project. (Prostate cancer survivors' submissions
are featured in the "Fellas' Favorites" section of the book.)
The primary focus of the cookbook is to honor breast cancer survivors with a
permanent keepsake. The endeavor also served as an educational tool by
presenting healthy eating options and its sales will help provide free cancer
screenings for those who are medically underserved.
Breast and prostate cancer survivors provided their favorite
recipes accompanied by brief stories about themselves and their personal
survivorship experiences. Cookbook committee members, "Gift of Life" Board
members, and program staff were also invited to participate. Cooking with the
Stars (recipes from area chefs and restaurants) were also featured.
Each survivor who contributes to the book will received a complimentary copy at
the 2006 Breast Cancer Awareness Month Kickoff on Thursday, September 28.
Several local shops supporting the program as "Pink Boutiques" sold the
cookbooks throughout the month of October.
